The Corra Harris family correspondence is made up of letters from the last thirty years of Corra Harris' life. The earliest letters date from her Nashville years (before publication of The Circuit Rider's Wife) when she was reviewing books for the New York Independent and writing for other magazines.
Much of the general correspondence relates to Corra Harris' writing, including letters to editors, publishers, other writers, friends, and others. Notable among the correspondents are the editors George H. Lorimer, W. F. Bigelow, Edward Bok, Barton Currie, Hamilton Holt, Loring Schuler, and Authur Vance; writers Roark Bradford, Harry Stillwell Edwards, Joel Chandler Harris, E. W. Howe, Jack London, and H. L. Mencken; newspapermen Clark Howell, Walter Hines Page, and William Allen White; scholars Edwin Mims, and Howard Odum; to name only some.
Extensive correspondence exists between Medora Perkerson (of The Atlanta Journal), Hamilton Holt, E. W. Howe, and Bessie and Traine Raines. A selective index of the general correspondence file can be found in the appendix at the end of this inventory.
