Series III. Personal contains material related to his personal and family life, his time in the military and National Guard, as well as his post-political life. Letters Byrd received following his withdrawal from the 1962 gubernatorial campaign are particularly noteworthy, with correspondents showing concern for his health asw well as encouraging further political aspirations. Clippings and scrapbooks, likely compiled by his family, cover a great deal of Byrd's political career. This series also includes letters written directly to Gloria Byrd and files related to her work with local and statewide women's clubs.
