These are speeches which Smith delivered while in office as Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives for the years 1973, 1972, 1969, 1967, 1963, 1962, and 1961. Included are acceptance speeches for election as Speaker, speeches to open and close House sessions, and Legislative Session Overviews and topic-centered Floor Summaries. Topics of note include the 1966 Governor's election controversy (found in the 1967 Floor Summary speeches under "Plurality") and desegregation, which Smith addresses in terms of "open schools" (found in the 1960-1961 and 1961 "Legislative Topics"). Arrangement is reverse chronological.
