A. Committees

Scope and content:

Subseries A is organized into two sections: Ways and Means Committee and Other House Committees. The bulk of this subseries is comprised of papers documenting Jenkins activities as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee where he was assigned to its Trade Subcommittee. Notable legislation in this subseries includes records related to the Caribbean Basin Initiative (H.R. 5900)/Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act of 1983 and H.R. 1562 – The Textile and Apparel Trade Enforcement Act of 1985 which was introduced by Jenkins, but was ultimately vetoed by the President and in the House.

This subseries also includes legislative files detailing Jenkins participation in other House committees such as: the Committee on the Budget, the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (now the Committee on Ethics), and the House Democratic Caucus's Steering and Policy Committee.
