5. Daily Copies of Congressional Records, 1936-1971

Scope and content:

These daily copies of the Congressional Record were kept over the years because they contain remarks made on the Senate floor by Senator Russell or about him. Used as working copies by office staff, many have marginal notes, both by the Senator and the staff.

From 1951 to 1971, daily copies were kept in bookcases filed chronologically left to right. From 1944 to 1950, an attempt was made to arrange the copies alphabetically by topic of remarks. Filed among these are a few Senate bills and Executive Orders. Evidently, this was a carry over of the system used from 1936 to 1946, which includes daily copies, off prints of speeches, and Senate bills, all arranged alphabetically by topic.
