Biographical Note

Talmadge Clifton DuVall was born in Greensboro, Georgia on July 26, 1933. He was raised working on his family's dairy farm before entering the University of Georgia as a Dairy Science undergraduate major. After receiving his Bachelor's in Dairy Science in 1954, DuVall spent two years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky and the Panama Canal. After his two-year ROTC obligation in the U.S. Army, DuVall took on the position as a county agent in Carrollton, Georgia which marked the beginning of his three decade career in Cooperative Extension.

In 1965, Tal DuVall became a county agent for Clarke County. He also went on to receive a Master's in Extension Education as well as a Doctorate in Public Administration in 1974. Throughout his career, DuVall was involved with Cooperative Extension as a county, district, and university extension agent. In 1988, DuVall officially retired from the extension service having risen to the position of director and associate dean of the College of Agriculture.

Following his retirement from the University of Georgia, DuVall became involved with local politics. He ran for the post of District 10 Commissioner in 1990 for the newly unified Athens-Clarke County which he successfully won. Throughout his post-Cooperative Extension career, DuVall was heavily involved with several organizations around Athens, Georgia including the Georgia Agribusiness Council, Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Authority, Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, Athens-Clarke County Planning Commission, and the Northeast United Way. He has been recognized several times throughout his career including: Man of the Year in Georgia Agriculture (Progressive Farmer, 1988), Distinguished Service Award (National Association of 4-H Agents, 1978), National Distinguished Service Ruby Award (Epsilon Sigma Phi, 1984), and the Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame (College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, University of Georgia, 2010).
