Jon Nielsen (1912-1986) was a Danish-American artist and illustrator. He has illustrated over 200 children's books and textbooks, taught college art, and co-authored the children's book "The Wishing Pearl and Other Tales of Vietnam" with his wife, Kay. His works have been featured in galleries in New York and Florida. In the 1960s during the Vietnam War, he was asked by the US State Department to travel to Vietnam and sketch portraits to entertain the soldiers. This collection contains 70 photographs taken by Nielsen as studies for his ink drawings. Some of the six drawings in the collection were later used in his book "Artist in South Vietnam," published in 1969.

It is subdivided into general correspondence and subject files. General correspondence contains writings and materials of a general international nature. The Subject files include correspondence and materials pertaining to specific geographic regions, such as Africa and the Middle East, and countries such as Cuba, Angola, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam. Materials relating to the British Loan (1942-1946), the Berlin Crisis, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Pueblo Incident, and the Dominican Republic Crisis of 1965 are located in these files. Includes audiotapes and transcriptions documenting Rusk's life from early childhood in the 1910's through his teaching career in the 1980's. The interviews contain information on Rusk's service as U.S. Under Secretary and Secretary of State during the administrations of Presidents Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson and his involvement in foreign relations including the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War. The interviews also document his position as president of the Rockefeller Foundation in the 1950s.
