The Personal series contains correspondence and material of a personal nature including invitations, greetings, thank yous, condolences and items related to the Richard B. Russell Foundation, which Senator Talmadge served as chairman from 1971 until 1974. Arrangement is chronological by topic. Especially noteworthy are the subseries Sympathy and Ham Business. Sympathy includes letters of condolence to him and his family relating to the death of his youngest son, Robert, in 1975. The Ham Business subseries contains printed materials and correspondence concerning Talmadge Hams. Betty Talmadge managed the business while the senator worked in Washington. The invitation subseries includes invitations accepted, fulfilled, or regretted.

The varied folklore subjects range the gamut from women's issues to Demosthenian related tales of Robert Toombs.

The collection consists of interviews organized by Works Progress Administration, Federal Writers' Project, with women and men born into slavery. Transcripts, dated 1936-1939, are in multiple formats, and mostly contain name of person interviewed, date of interview (or date of interview submission), date of birth, and name of research worker, editor or author. Interviews recount experiences of being enslaved, and are full of anecdotes, folklore, and authentic history. The collection also contains information concerning the organization and design of the original interview structure.

The collection consists of research collected by Robert S. Davis concerning Micajah Clark Dyer's flying machine from 1953-1980. Correspondence from National Archives and Records Service in Washington, D.C., the Historical and Genealogical Society of North West Georgia, Ken Akins, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., regards Clark Dyer, Dyer's descendants, patents, and Dyer and his flying machine. Miscellaneous items include The story of Clark Dyer and his Flying Machine, written by Ken Akins, Kitty Hawk Was In North Georgia? A Union County Farmer's Experiments With A Practical Flying Machine, by Robert Scott Davis, Jr., notes from oral histories of Dyer family members, information about Atlanta REDWINE'S (photocopies from the 1800s), and photocopies of materials regarding Dyer family descendants. The collection also consists of a diagram of the flying machine, a photograph of Ken Akins at Clark Dyer's home, and newspaper clippings regarding Clark Dyer and the flying machine.

WSB-TV, Georgia Giant Documentary Files, Series VI. Audiovisual Materials consists of 139 16mm films that were created in the production of Richard Russell: A Georgia Giant, in 1970. The reels include negative, internegative, magnetic sound, optical sound, answer print, and composite print reels. Additionally, one 2-inch videotape contains an introduction to the documentary by Herman Talmadge, aired on WSB-TV when the documentary was shown. Five Umatic videotapes and 11 VHS videotapes, containing copies of the final production, were made by the Russell Library in the 1980s and 1990s, and integrated into the collection in 2011. The full-length Georgia Giant runs two hours and 48 minutes, while the shorter classroom version is 34 minutes long. User copies are available only for the finished productions.

The collection consists of over 150 oral history interviews. In 1939 and 1940 the W.P.A. workers went to the homes and businesses of men and women, both black and white, and asked them to tell about their lives and business experiences. The stories were written down in the words and dialect used. The stories were later edited, which included changing the real names of the persons mentioned and changing some of the titles. The majority of the persons interviewed lived in the Athens area. Some of those interviewed remembered the days of slavery and the Civil War. Others discussed their jobs, such as farmer, washwoman, principal, and insurance agent. All of the transcripts are photocopies.
