Joel Benton (1832-1911) wass the author of In the Poe Circle and resided in New York (State).
Scope and Content
Letters (1892-1908) from Joel Benton mainly from Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) to a Mr. Miller. Benton discusses his progress in his research of Thomas Holley Chivers, composes an interesting description of the poet's son, relates his discoveries especially in Southern papers and magazines, and discusses the purchase of books.
