Historical Note

John Watrous Beckwith (1831-1890) was an Episcopal minister and the second Bishop of the Diocese of Georgia (1831-1890). He lived and preached in Maryland, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of the sermons of John W. Beckwith from 1853-1890. Handwritten sermons include the title, scripture referenced, and a listing of location and date of delivery. The collection also includes a "memoriam" about Beckwith adapted by the Perlee Club, May 18, 1891, with portions translated by J.F. Adams; an editorial to the Birmingham Magazine regarding Archbishop Parker; an essay on the history of the English Church; and several fragments and untitled sermons.
