Historical Note

Jesse Stahl was a famous African American cowboy and rodeo star. He rose to fame while competing in bronc riding at the 1912 Salinas Rodeo in California and went on to headline expositions nationwide until he retired in 1929. In 1979, he was posthumously inducted into Oklahoma City's Rodeo Hall of Fame, becoming second African American cowboy to receive that honor.

Scope and Content

This collection includes two photographic postcards of Jesse Stahl competing in rodeos during the 1920s, one of which depicts him winning the 1924 rodeo in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
