Collection Description

Historical Note

Walter Henry Pemberton was born in Lonoke County, Arkansas on 1857 May 31. He was educated in North Carolina and became a member of the law firm of Dodge, Johnson, Carroll, and Pemberton. From 1890 to 1896 he served as prosecuting attorney in Little Rock. He also served two terms as a member of the Little Rock School Board and also president of the board. He died 1928 June 8.

Scope and Content

This collection includes three handwritten letters addressed to Attorney Walter H. Pemberton in Keo, Arkansas signed by O. E. French containing racist complaints of a property line dispute with an African American neighbor named Lydia Washing[ton], as well as a typed, unsigned letter addressed to O. E. French on Walter H. Pemberton Counsellor at Law letterhead.
