Historical Note

Alexander Hamilton Stephens (1812-1883) served as vice president of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War (1861-65).

Dr. Maurice Ludwig Lichtenstadt (1821-1895)immigrated to Atlanta, Georgia from Hamburg, Germany and served as captain of the Steuben Jagers of an infantry company from Atlanta during the Civil War.

Scope and Content

This collection is comprised of two handwritten letters dated August 11, 1869 and January 18, 1870 from Alexander Stephens to Dr. Maurice Lichtenstadt regarding the medical treatment he was receiving from Dr. Lichtenstadt.
