Collection Description

Historical Note

Camp Churchman was a miltary training camp set up Albany, Georgia in 1898 during the Spanish-American War, which was nearing its end. It was among several camps in the south that were set up for winter quartering for stateside troops. The First Territorial Regiment of the United States Volunteers was moved from Fort Hamilton in Lexington, Kentucky to Albany, and the camp was shut down shortly after in February of 1899. The photograph is signed "Hudson Phot."

This collections contains one photograph (10 3/4"x13 1/2") that is inscribed "Staff and Line Officers 1st Ter. Reg., U.S.V. Camp Churchman Albany Ga. Feb 12- 1899" and "Hudson Phot."
