Collection Description

Historical Note

James Dudley Fooshe (1844-1940) was born in Greenwood County, South Carolina, the son of J. W. Fooshe and Martha Richardson Fooshe. He served in the Confederate Army until the Battle of Richmond, where he was wounded, and later returned as an orderly in the Hospital Corps. After his service he was active in the United Confederate Veterans.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of personal writings, photographs, newspaper articles, genealogy, and interview notes pertaining to James Dudley Fooshe and his family. Some of the material consists of James Fooshe's handwritten autobiographical writings covering his life up until approximately 1918. Much of the material focuses on his Civil War service and activity as a veteran.
