Charles D. Davis was a lawyer in Monroe, Georgia. He was originally from Vermont. He died on April 1, 1879 and is buried in Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe, Georgia.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of one letter: dated Monroe, Walton County, Georgia, January 15, 1837, addressed to "Mr. Alanson Davis," signed "Charles D. Davis," regarding the decline of Charles Davis' law business, and his consideration of moving to Cincinnati, Ohio because of the new railroad from Charleston, South Carolina. Davis quotes prices for food, carriages and enslaved people.
