Historical Note

Alphonse "Al" Bloemer (1896-1980) served with Company B of the 107th Engineers in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in France during World War I.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of a diary kept by Alphonse Bloemer while serving in World War I, from January 14, 1918-November 19, 1918. Bloemer writes about his trip from Camp MacArthur, Texas to New Jersey, to Brest, France; and building barracks, stables, hospitals, and roads. A few entries regard shell shock cases and men killed in battle. The collection also contains two photographs of the soldiers of Company B, 107th Engineers.

The accompanying copy of Wally: his cartoons of the A.E.F., by Private Abian A. Wallgren has been cataloged. The call number is Hargrett Manuscripts Folio D526.2 .W344 1919.
