Collection DescriptionScope and ContentThe collection consists of an account book of Michael Dennis for his general store, sawmill, and grist mill in Eatonton, Georgia from 1855-1867. The ledger entries contain customer's name, items purchased, and price for items such as lumber, household goods, food, and clothing. Additional entries pertain to hiring out of enslaved people, the sale of beef cattle to the Confederate government, and later repurchase of the hides.
