Historical Note

Giles Moore was a former African American slave in the Cherokee Nation who enlisted with the Union Army in August, 1863 as a member of the 2nd Regiment of Kansas Colored Volunteers (better known as the 2nd Kansas Infantry (Colored)).

Scope and Content

The collection consists of one Volunteer enlistment form (completed in manuscript) in which Giles Moore enlists in the 2nd Regiment of Kansas Colored Volunteers. The document bears Moore's "X" mark signature.
