Historical Note

At the turn of the twentieth century, scrapbooks were increasingly popular with Americans, who frequently prized and saved greeting cards, invitations, advertisements, poetry, artwork, and photographs. Individuals occasionally preserved tobacco cards, which were trade cards used to stiffen packaging and advertise cigarettes. These were often in sets with strict themes, such as world leaders, global costumes, and horses.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of scrapbooks, trade cards, and advertisements. Scrapbooks include one that belonged to Margaret Adams of Augusta, Georgia. Another scrapbook contains three issues of a magazine called Sunshine for Little Children. Another is a repurposed ledger from the Agency Union Bank checkbook, from Columbus, GA.
