Historical Note

John Knox was a physician, lawyer, teacher, merchant and the brother of James N. Knox of Chester County, South Carolina.

Scope and Content

A two-page autograph letter signed by John Knox, dated "Augusta, Ga. December 11th 1843," addressed to his brother James N. Knox of the Chester District, South Carolina. The letter is a personal letter discussing family matters including the death of their mother, John's lack of money, and James' difficulties with the family's land. Although John does not directly give his reasons for being in Augusta, he was a student at the time, probably at the Medical College of Georgia.
