Historical Note

Prosper Julius Alphonso Berckmans (1830-1910), and his father, Louis Mathieu Berckmans, born in Belgium, moved to Augusta, Georgia, established Fruitlands Nursery (now Augusta National Golf Club).

Scope and Content

The collection consists of a notebook kept by Prosper J. Berckmans. The notebook contains sketches and descriptions of various species of fruits and vegetables, including gooseberries, apples, pumpkins, and pears.
