Collection Description

Historical Note

Balance was a student organization at the University of Georgia concerned with promoting ecological principles and spreading awareness of environmental problems. The group was based at the Institute of Ecology--now the Odum School of Ecology--and organized a teach-in to observe the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of correspondence, articles, press releases regarding the student organization Balance. The records primarily focus on the Earth Day environmental teach-in on campus in 1970, but some records pertain to similar programs at other universities across the United States.
