Collection Description

Historical Note

Oglethorpe House, affectionately nicknamed "O-House," is a residence hall in the Hill Community on the University of Georgia campus. The nine-story, 500-capacity co-ed dorm was built in 1965 as a private apartment building, but was acquired by the university in 1979. Today is conveniently situated next door to the Oglethorpe Dining Commons, and it hosts the Freshman College Summer Experience each July.

In February 2016, O-House residents were invited for an evening of fun at the Special Collections Libraries Building. The events included UGA history trivia, a "find Uga" tour through the galleries, decorating a run-through banner, and writing down an O-House memory or story to be filed with University Archives.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of seventeen hand-written memories by students from Oglethorpe House residence hall. The students were asked to write down a favorite memory or funny story that characterized the past year as a resident of Oglethorpe House or as a student at UGA in general.

Also included are materials related to the UGA trivia game that students participated in during the event.
