Collection Description

Historical Note

The legislature's approval of the charter on January 27, 1785, made the University of Georgia the first university established by a state government. This provided the framework for what would become the American system of publicly supported colleges and universities. The material in this collection was created in celebration of the history of UGA.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of photographs, signed books, programs, and text of lectures celebrating Founders Day at the University of Georgia.
