Collection Description

Historical Note

Dr. Thomas R. Brahana was a member of the University of Georgia Mathematics Department faculty from 1954 until his retirement in 1992. He was known for playing a vital role in keeping the campus calm during the 1961 desegregation of UGA by participating in the Faculty Patrol and helping to organize the Faculty Petition.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of Dr. Brahana's personal account of the desegregation of the University of Georgia in 1961 and of the history of the UGA Mathematics Department. Both papers were written around 2000 and given to University Archives in 2003.
