Biographical/historical note

David E. Sumner is currently professor of journalism and coordinator of the magazine journalism major in the Department of Journalism at Ball State University, a position he has held since 1990. He earned his Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Tennessee in 1989 and was named a "Distinguisheed Alumni" from the School of Journalism in 2008. In 2007 Sumner received the Magazine Educator of the Year Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. He is co-author of the textbook Feature and Magazine Writing which has entered its 3rd edition.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of 2 publications by David E. Sumner concerning events in Georgia and at UGA: the Wally Butts' trial in the 1960's and the historical founding of Atlanta, Georgia.
