Abstract: Richard A. Stogner held a number of positions in Atlanta municipal government, under Mayors Ivan Allen, Sam Massell, Maynard Jackson, and Andrew Young, and DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones. This collection documents his work as financial officer for the 1996 Olympic Games and his work on improvements to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the Atlanta Underground.

Collection Description

Historical Note

Richard A. Stogner held a number of municipal offices in Atlanta and DeKalb County over a 40 year career in city government. These included working under four Atlanta mayors--Ivan Allen, Sam Massell, Maynard Jackson, and Andrew Young; serving as Director of Planning and Economic Development for Fulton County, and later as Executive Assistant to DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones. From 1996-1997, Stogner served as the Deputy Chief Finance Officer and dissolution officer for the 1996 Olympic Games. He was responsible for designing the concessions program at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and for constructing the financing package for revitalizing the Atlanta Underground.

Scope and Content

This collection contains documents from Stogner's 40+ years of work in Atlanta municipal government. In particular, this collection focuses on the 1996 Olympics, the Olympic Park bombing, and the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, but also includes information related to the Atlanta Underground project and other city financial matters.
