Abstract: The collection consists of twenty pieces of Malcolm Tarver's correspondence from 1944, at which time he served as a Democrat representing Georgia's Seventh District in the United States Congress.

Collection Description

Biographical Note

Malcolm Connor Tarver was born September 25, 1885 in Rural Vale, Georgia. He graduated from Mercer University with his LL.B in 1904. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1909 to 1912. He served in the Georgia Senate in 1913 and 1914. Tarver served as a judge of the Superior Courts, Cherokee Circuit, Georgia from 1917 to 1927. He was elected as a Democratic representative to the 70th United States Congress in 1927 and served on the nine succeeding Congresses until 1947.

After serving in Congress, Tarver moved to Dalton, Georgia to resume the practice of law. He died on March 5, 1960 in Dalton, Georgia.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of twenty pieces of Malcolm Tarver's correspondence from 1944, at which time he served as a Representative in Congress. Subjects include peacetime conscription, the Civil Aeronautics Administration's air marking project, and the 7th Congressional District convention.
