Collection DescriptionBiographical NoteJoseph C. Frierson grew up in Elberton, GA and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966 with a degree in Political Science. He married Ann Fortson Smith in 1965 and together they have three sons. In 1966, Frierson joined the Athens office of the investment firm, Goodbody & Co., which was subsequently acquired by Merrill Lynch. Frierson is the managing director of Merrill Lynch's Athens office. The sketches of Richard B. Russell, Jr. were drawn by renowned sculptor and printmaker, William J. Thompson, who was comissioned to create a sculpture of Russell for the Georgia State Capitol grounds. The sketches originally hung in the office of Frierson before they were donated to the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies. Scope and ContentThis collection contains three framed 16 x 14" sketches of Richard B. Russell, Jr. by artist William J. Thompson.
