Claim - John Myrick v. George Fisher and James Lombardy - Inferior Court of Decatur County, Georgia, 1831 June Access Online

This document records the inferior court dispute between John Myrick, possibly the tax collector, and two men, George Fisher and James Lombardy. Myrick claims that two enslaved men, named George and Ricky, were levied as George Fisher's property, and did not belong to James Lombardy at the time.

Wright represents minors of John E. Gholson, named Martha E., and John Richard, who claim 2/3 ownership

		This affidavit given by David Gray refers to the case of William Donalson vs. John H. Gray and William Martin regarding an enslaved man named Jack, 18 years old. The order requires the payment of fines, fees, and the release of Jack to the county sheriff Powell for delivery to Donalson.

		This is an appraisement for goods and property of the Benjamin F. Petter estate. It includes enslaved people and their values. The men are listed as Autry, $1200; Lumpkin, $1400; Griffin, $1400; Jack, $1400; and Bill, $1000. The women listed are Peggy, $800, and Viny, $1200.

 

1	7	Order- Isaac Ramsay [Ramsey] estate - Sumter County, Georgia Access Online
		This order to distribute the estate of Isaac Ramsay includes the disposition of enslaved people to be divided between four heirs, plus cash payments to equalize the values. William A. Ramsay is to receive a man named Isaac, $1100; a woman named Nancy and her child Haywood, $1300; a girl named Eliza, $900, and a boy named Sam, $850. Hugh Ingram is to receive a man named Bryant, $1400; a woman named Eliza, $300, a girl named Cinthia [Cynthia], $650; and a woman named Jane with her children Elbert and Evaline, $1500. Isaac Ramsay is to receive a man named George, $700; a man named Randal, $700; a woman named Amanda, $800; and a woman named Queen and her three children Jesse, Monroe, and Maragret, $1800. Thomas Barlow is to receive aman named Moses, $750; a man named Henry, $900; a woman named Debra [Silva?], $250; a girl named Sarah, $650; a girl named Mary, $900; an "idiot" girl named Appalona; and "old negro woman by the name of Alsey at nothing."

		This is an appraisement for the estate of Thomas M. and Elizabeth B. Mann. It distributes 13 enslaved people among four heirs. Robert E. Mann is to receive Martha, a 26 year old woman and her infant child, Spencer $1500, and Jordan, a 7 year old boy, $600. James L. Mann is to receive two men, Arch, a 45 year old man, $1200; and Arthur, a 27 year old man, $1600. Thomas H.H. Mann is to receive Clarissa, a 35 year old woman and her infant female child, $1250; Margaret, a 10 year old girl, $850; and Mary, an 8 year old girl, $700. Sarah E. Mann is to receive Wash, a 28 year old man, $1700, and Jinney, a 7 year old girl, $700. Robert J. Mann is to receive Tyler, an 18 year old man, $1600, and Franklin (Frank), a 7 year old boy, $700.

		names freed person, Edmond Golden, who is accused of larceny, "Personally appeared before me Peter Howard who on oath Saith that to the best of his knowledge and belief Edmond Golden of Said County is guilt of the offence of Larceny"

 

1	12	1	Warrant -- State of Georgia versus Jacob Lowe, 1861 July 16
		Mentions unnamed enslaved persons, being provided alcohol illegaly, "Before me a justice of the peace for said County Personally came Nathanial F. Walker who being duly sworn ... and saith on oath that a man calling himself Jacob Lowe on or about the thirteenth day of July [1861] in the county of Upson and State aforesaid furnished one or more of my slaves with spiritous liquors without my consent or knowledge and at divers of other times tampered with my slaves to the great injury of the morals of said slaves ..."

Argues to remain overseeing 9 plantations, 745 enslaved people (unnamed), and 410 working hands to produce food stocks for the war effort, while caring for his widowed mother.
