The collection consists of seven letters written by Daniel M. Reed to Mary K. Bull from Beaufort, South Carolina about guarding the ferry, picket duty at Seabrook Island, war news the soldiers hear, battle, plans to go out west after the war, and his determination to never take the oath of allegiance if captured.
