Richard M. Rice (1826-1912) lived in Elbert County, Georgia for much of his life, and married Mary Elizabeth Harper (1834-1896) in July 1856.
The collection consists of one ledger that details store account sales, freedmen's contracts for labor, and records of Rice's brandy and whiskey production and sales. There are several loose papers that include a record of goods sold to freedman Boney Brown as well as Rice's 1863 quarterly taxes paid on 335 gallons of brandy.
