Collection Description
Historical Note
University of Georgia Police investigating the theft of original art prints from various books at the University of Georgia's Main Library arrested Alfred Hirshoren in December of 1980. Hirshoren was a professor in the University's College of Education at the time, and he resigned his position on 9 June 1981, after pleading guilty to charges of theft by taking. Hirshoren stole approximately 662 prints and attempted to sell them through a New York art auction company. The works were by mostly French artists, including F. Bracquemond, F. Buhot, A. Legros, A. Lepere and Prud'hon. Most of the stolen items were returned to the University of Georgia.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of original art prints from French artists including Bracquemond, Buhot, Legros, Lepère and Prud'hon.
