Collection Description

Historical Note

In an effort to be admitted to medical school in 1948, Dr. John Galambos wrote to Albert Einstein, who had been helpful to Jewish students in America. Dr. Einstein's reply left Galambos with little hope, indicating it was unlikely a Jewish boy would be admitted to a medical school in the South. However, Dr. Galambos proved Einstein wrong by graduating from Emory University Medical School and later becoming a renowned gastroenterologist.

Scope and Content

A letter (typed, in German, signed) written by Albert Einstein dated February 5, 1946 with accompanying mailing envelope. In the letter, Einstein is conferring with John Galambos about prospects for obtaining a scholarship to medical school.
