John Abbot was a naturalist and artist. He collected, observed, and drew insects, arachnids, and birds. He was a native of England, moved to America in 1773 and Georgia in 1776. To note, he was born in 1750 and died in 1840.
The collection consists of a bound notebook containing a catalogue of Georgia birds with notes, presumably kept by John Abbot. Included are 153 named entries which may include size, number of feathers, type of eggs, migration pattern with a page of migration habits of birds in America. In the accompanying materials folder, there are published papers addressing Abbot's work.
