Dr. Henry Carr Hornady (1822-1893) served as pastor of the Atlanta First Baptist Church from 1861-1867. He was a co-editor of the Landmark Banner and Cherokee Baptist after this paper was moved to Atlanta in 1861. Rev. Hornady opened perhaps the first school for boys and girls in Atlanta after Sherman's departure when the Second Baptist Church school began operations on 27 February 1865.
The collection consists of one three-page letter, dated July 31 1867, from Hornady to a young boy. It shows clearly Hornady's compassion and understanding as he describes for the boy the death of an Atlanta lady and God's everlasting love.
