Mamie MacRee Elliott was born in 1889 and died in 1971. She taught in the public school systems in Stone Mountain and Oconee County. She taught at the University of Georgia's Demonstration School in the late 1940s and 1950s.
The University of Georgia operated its own Demonstration School on the Normal School grounds, which had merged with UGA in 1932. Baldwin Hall was the original building, though taken over in World War II and only returned in the 1960s. In 1956 the Demonstration School was discontinued and never revived after the Clarke County Public School system agreed to take its student teachers.
The collection consists of school lesson plans from the 1910's from the old State Normal School and other documents from this time period.
However, the vast majority centers around Mrs. Elliott's time as a teacher at the University of Georgia Department of Education Demonstration School. Many items marked "Elementary School" direct to this school. Mrs. Elliott kept many books and notes on her students, her teaching, and the schools she worked for. There are numerous progress reports, grade sheets, information sheets, received holiday cards and pictures, and even a school scrapbook project about China. Correspondence and instruction about teaching are also very popular in this collection, though often mixed in with student information.
Arranged by record type.
