Historical Note
The Federal Writers' Project, created by an act of Congress in 1935, undertook the preparation of a series of guidebooks to America.
Scope and Content
A typescript of Athens: American Guide Series, compiled by the Athens and Augusta units of the Federal Writers' Project (WPA) and incorporates much of the research preformed by the WPA writers in county archives and personal interviews. The typescript has numerous manuscript notations and attempts an historical, social, and economic overview of the Athens community from its beginnings until the date of the research (1935-1938).
