Science in the 19th century was a varied collection of academic activities that fell under Natural Philosophy and included Physics and Astronomy. At the end of the 19th century, Physics and Astronomy became disciplines unto themselves. The Department was located in Moore College until 1959 when the current building was constructed as a unit of the Science Center. In 1960 the Physics and Astronomy program expanded with the creation of a Ph.D. degree and today is a well-regarded department with an emphasis on both teaching and research.
This collection consists of a ledger with listings and vouchers for purchases of supplies and equipment for the Physics program. It also serves as an inventory of materials found in the department during the years 1876-1896.
