Collection Description

Historical Note

The University of Georgia is home to Air Force Reserve Office Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 160, home of the Flying Bulldogs. Air Force ROTC was established at UGA in 1949.

Air Force ROTC is a leadership program for college students interested in earning a commission and entering the active duty Air Force, as an officer, after completing a bachelors degree. AFROTC instructs students in military heritage, the development of air and space power, military ethics, drill and ceremonies, communication, human relations, and leadership theory and techniques.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of 17 photograph albums, two scrapbooks and a cross-stitched photograph album cover. Although there are photographs dating back to the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, most of the materials date from the 1980s and 1990s with one scrapbook from 2008. The pictures feature scenes of such things as training activities, ceremonies and social clubs.
