J. Frank McGill was the Cooperative Extension peanut agronomist stationed at the University of Georgia Coastal Plain Experiment Station in Tifton, Georgia from 1954 until 1980. In recognition of his major contributions to agriculture, J. Frank McGill was inducted into the University of Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1996.
The collection chiefly consists of bound volumes of J. Frank McGill's correspondence and various reports (1954-1979) relating to the development of the post-war peanut industry in Georgia. The collection also contains Mr. McGill's history of his work in Georgia and around the world, From the mule to the moon: a fifty-year collection of human interest experiences about peanuts, people and places across five continents.
