Abstract: Scrapbook from the American Consulate in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. |
This scrapbook was given to Henry T. Smith by the staff of the American Consulate in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. It features photographs and news clippings taken during Smith's tenure as American Vice-Consul in Tamaulipas. The scrapbook is signed by Vice-Consul Henry G. Krausse, and Consult Herndon Goforth.
The scrapbook was removed from the leather folio in which it was bound, but the folio has been retained in a separate box which is housed in organic. The 21 photographs are tipped into 16 pages black pages and 1 tan page. The tan page, which is the first page, has writing on the front.
The folio is lined with brown velvet and attached to the leather exterior with leather straps. The back leather cover has a brass plate with the initials H. T. S. etched into the surface. The front cover is very ornate with cacti and other foliage, a bird, and the face of a man in relief on its surface. It also has "Mexico" stamped into bottom left.
This collection is open for research.
