Abstract: Mesoamerica Resiste is a graphic poster produced in 2013 by the Beehive Design Collective of Machias, Maine in response to the social, economic, and environmental impact of globalization on the Americas. |
This poster is part of a larger project to represent the story of corporate-driven globalization in the Americas. The project began with posters about the "Free Trade Areas of the Americas" and "Plan Columbia." In 2004, the Beehive Design Collective embarked on a research trip for the third poster in this trilogy, traveling from Mexico to Panama over five months to meet with people on the frontlines of resistance to a regional development plan then known as Plan Puebla Panama (PPP). The industrial-scale infrastructure projects of the plan (later renamed Mesoamerica Integration and Development Project) helped pave the way for the free trade model. This poster is a grassroots response to Plan Puebla Panama, the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Mesoamerica Resiste is the final graphic poster in a trilogy about globalization in the Americas, produced in 2013 by the Beehive Design Collective of Machias, Maine. The double-sided black and white map poster focuses on the clash between two very different world views. When folded, the outside of the poster features a colonial map of Mesoamerica, the view from the top-down. The poster opens up to an inside image twice as large, showing the view from the ground, of people's lives who are affected by the plans on the map. The two sides of the poster are drawn in different styles to emphasize opposing interpretations of the story of globalization.
