Martha Brown Stacy was born on November 7, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia. Stacy graduated from the University of Georgia with Bachelor of Business Administration in 1941. Between 1942 and 1946, Stacy worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several different organizations. In August of 1946, Stacy began working in the office of Senator Richard B. Russell, Jr. performing a variety of duties, mainly clerical and public relations activities. Stacy resigned from her position in 1950 when she moved to Wynne, Arkansas with her husband C. Mack Stacy with whom she had a son and two daughters. Stacy was active in volunteer work from 1950 until 1967 when she became a substitute teacher for the Fort Worth Public School system. For two years during her time as a substitute teacher, Stacy produced a public service television show called "Parents in Action". She received awards from the Fort Worth District Dental Society and American Society of Dentistry for Children for her work in dental health.
Martha Brown Stacy died in Fort Worth, Texas on March 12, 2003.
The collection consists of correspondence, printed materials, and newspaper clippings primarily relating to Martha B. Stacy's work as chairman of radio and television for the Fort Worth (Texas) City Council of the Parent-Teachers Association and substitute teacher for the Fort Worth Public School system. News clippings focus on a variety of subjects among them fluoridation, Richard B. Russell, Jr., and Herman E. Talmadge.
