Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe Athens (Georgia) Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1978. The first performance was held in 1979 at Clarke Central High School's Mell Auditorium. Their current home is the Classic Center, where rehearsals are in the Ligotti Room. The orchestra's offerings include a fall, spring, Christmas and pops concerts. The first conductor was Albert Ligotti, followed by Susan Dinwiddie, then Brad Maffett. Scope and ContentThis collection contains photographs, correspondence, programs, and business records including articles of incorporation, license agreements, donors, rehearsal schedules, and meeeting agendas.
