Historical Note

Carry Nation (1846-1911) was an anti-alcohol activist who encouraged fellow temperance movement members to use axes to break open barrels of alcohol and destroy bars.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of a 1.25 inch axe pendant, the emblem of 20th century anti-alcohol activist Carry Nation. In addition, the collection contains a postcard of Nation's home and a postcard describing Nation's contributions to the temperance movement through the destruction bars and saloons with a hatchet.
