Collection Description

Historical Note

Worm farming (vermiculture) is the act of breeding and raising earthworms. There are many benefits to farming worms, mostly centering around their role in soil fertilization through aeration and composting. Worms are also bred for use as fishing bait.

Hugh A. Carter, Sr. served in the Georgia State Senate from 1967 to 1981, succeeding his first cousin Jimmy Carter. He also owned a bait shop and antique store in his native Plains, GA.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of instructional guides and order forms pertaining to earthworm farming and raising crickets. Three manuals are authored by Charlie Morgan, and several others were penned by Hugh A. Carter of Plains, GA.
