Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThomas Heyward Vann (d. 1995) of Thomasville, Georgia, son of Thomas King Vann and Eugenia Ethelinda Switzer, married Mildred Victoria Jackson (d. 2003), daughter of John Andrew Jackson and Lena Franklin Duke, in 1938. Thomas H. Vann graduated from the Univerisity of Georgia with an L.L.B. degree, was a member of Kappa Alpha, and practiced law with the firm of Alexander and Vann. Mildred Jackson Vann graduated from the University of Georgia with an A. B. (1937) and B. S. in home economics (1938). During World War II, the couple lived in El Paso, Texas, where Thomas H. Vann served as Base Intelligence Officer for the Army Air Corps at Biggs Field. They had two sons, Thomas H. Vann Jr. and John Andrew Jackson Vann. Mildred Jackson Vann had two sisters, Jeanette Jackson and Cleone Jackson, a graduate of the University of Georgia. Scope and ContentThe Vann family collection consists primarily of scrapbooks and photographs documenting three generations of the Vann family. The scrapbooks include photographs, clippings, and correspondence. Additionally, there are two 16mm and 12 8mm home movies housed in the Brown Media Archive. Administrative InformationConditions Governing AccessThough the collection is open for research, the audiovisual recordings do not have reference copies; however, reference copies are available upon request. Audiovisual research requests are dependent upon the format and condition of the recordings.
