Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteJack Martin was a columnist, salesperson, humanitarian, author and historian, and lived in Athens, Georgia for most of his life. Scope and ContentThe collection consist of papers of and about Jack Martin. A large portion of the collection consists of A Little Bit About This and That clippings, Martin's column published in the Athens Banner-Herald. Also included are resolutions designating Martin as an Honorary Historian of the State of Georgia, newspaper clippings concerning awards presented to Martin, copies of articles and books written by Martin (including History of St. Mary's Hospital and The Only Double-barreled Cannon). Also included are several newspaper clippings mentioning Jack Martin dressed up as Santa Claus; and a photograph taken at Ben Epps Airfield, Athens, Georgia in 1932, depicting the arrival of Martin dressed as Santa Claus in a Ford tri-motored plane.
